New Director Will Aid Clients in Developing Lasting,
Proactive Solutions
Kansas City, Mo. (May 8, 2008) – Black & Veatch, a leading global
engineering, consulting and construction company, announced today that Peter
Binney has joined its global water business as Director of Sustainable
Planning. In his new role, Binney will further enhance Black & Veatch’s
ability to offer sustainable and proactive solutions in support of clients’
complex challenges.

widely seen as an expert in the sustainability arena and will augment our

that allows for reliable infrastructure development and resource
protection.”
Binney brings more than 30 years of private and public sector experience in
the field of sustainable water practices, serving both national and
international clients. He joins Black & Veatch after a six-year stint as
Director of Aurora Water in Aurora, Colo., where he conceived and developed the
innovative Prairie Waters Project, designed to provide a sustainable level of
water availability – despite severe drought conditions – to the growing
community.
Binney was also instrumental in Aurora’s efforts to secure new water
sources, including water rights purchases and a large farm-city interruptible
water leasing program in the Arkansas River basin. He implemented a nationally
acclaimed water conservation program that significantly reduced demands and
supplements the city’s balance of demand management and supply side
options.
A governor’s appointee to the statewide Interbasin Compact Committee, Binney
was recently honored by the American Council of Engineering Companies with the
General Palmer Award for his contributions to professional engineering and to
the state of Colorado.
Binney holds postgraduate degrees in engineering from the University of
Canterbury, in New Zealand, and the University of Colorado. He is based in
Black & Veatch’s Denver office.
